cooking & eating

Asha's Saag-shuka: First of all - it’s stunning!! Second, this recipe is impeccable. The second of Asha’s (@fromheadtotable) dishes I’ve made and I am a huge fan! This combines all the things I love in this world, a spicy crunchy topping, eggs, and a hearty amount of green leafy veggies. The tadka? I could eat by the spoonfuls - it was immaculate.

Pickled Red Onions: should absolutely be the go-to onion of the bagel world. What are we doing with the raw red onions still? Please fill out this form to cast your vote on the subject.
-
Jelly Donut Baked Oats: I adapted this from @emilygough. Overall I’d say this probably could have used a little more sweetener and is served best with a giant scoop of peanut butter. Next time I probably do a nut butter and jelly situation in the middle.

Added an egg to mix for some extra oomph

I coated my baking dish with Ghee
-
Instead of making my own chia jam, I used chia smash

It would be impossible to reflect on last week and not acknowledge the hate crime that occurred in Atlanta and the rise in anti-Asian sentiment in the United States. Below I have listed some resources and places to support:
-
BYSTANDER INTERVENTION TO STOP ANTI-ASIAN/AMERICAN HARASSMENT AND XENOPHOBIA WORKSHOP: If you are signing up for a training, and have the means to donate - please consider doing so to help the organization continue and expand its efforts.
-
This post from @bysarali: Acknowledging this event through social media cannot be the only action, it must be met and overmatched by the work you do offline with yourself and your community.
-
Chefs Against AAPI Hate: If you are in DC consider supporting this event or volunteering for it. This event is currently local to DC, but, from their Instagram (@chefsstoppingaapihate), it looks like they might try and expand to other cities.
